Sunlight. Sunlight is truly a luxury for us in the UK, every summer many of us make the most out of the five minutes of summer we have! I equate this to the feel good feeling that is radiated from the sun.  “There is a popular belief that sunlight must be avoided at all cost. Panicked into avoiding sunlight by health experts, we are now dying of diseases linked to vitamin D deficiency. The human body requires ultra- violet waves, which is essential for the absorption of calcium, and absorption of minerals in the intestines. Sunshine is also important for the production of melatonin. The brighter the sun during the day and the more a person sleeps in greater the increase of the latter, thus improving energy levels. (Staple,2015). Contrary to many beliefs exposure to sunlight is not hazardous, it is the extremity in expose that is dangerous.  But how can I expose myself to sun when there is no sun? Being outside during the day regardless of whether or not the sun is blatant contributes to a healthier you.
*Did you know* that when you go outside when feeling stress this aids in reducing your stress levels? God has given us an atmosphere that can heals, it is made up of many components such as the sun and the air, but overall it is called nature. What a mighty God we serve!
Temperance. (Self control) This is a health law that is often preached but rarely practiced. It was intemperance that caused the fall of man and was the catalyst in igniting the different manifestations of sin. “One of the most deplorable effects of the original apostasy was the loss of man's power of self-control. Only as this power is regained can there be real progress” (EGW, 1905 p.129)

If we are to analyse acts of sins many of the motives are a result of intemperance. Take the spread of gossip, if we are told something negative about someone we have the choice whether to spread this information or have a level of self control and close our mouths and ears to such.
“Those who would preserve their powers unimpaired for the service of God must observe strict temperance in the use of His bounties, as well as total abstinence from every injurious or debasing indulgence.” Temperance is not only to help reduce the likelihood of expanding our waistlines but is needed in our service to God. “Daniel had unbounded confidence in the principles of temperance, not alone because he knew them to be scientifically true, but be- cause they were God-given, and, in his case, had been put into practice (p.23)”.  Daniel in the Bible understood the scientific importance of temperance and the spiritual significance. Through the practice of temperance in his food habits he was able to stand for truth (Daniel 5) and honour God.  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself (Daniel 1:8 KJV)”
*Did you know* anytime we eat something regardless of the portion the whole digestive system is put to work? Intemperance causes the digestive system to be at work unnecessarily and most likely will ware out the system.
“He who strives for the mastery must be temperate in all things”  (EGW, 1930 p.242)
Air. There is nothing like breathing in fresh air. This is one nature’s remedies for a healthy lifestyle. High quality fresh air is electricity charged. An environment full of fresh air must have positive effects. What are the effects of fresh air?
  1. ·      It enhances mental clarity – proper brain functioning, which manifests itself in behaviour.
  2. ·      It improves mood- aid relaxation
  3. ·      It improves the functioning of the lung’s protective cilia
  4. ·      It lowers body temperature (Staple,2015)

Rest. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it (Exodus 20: 8-11 KJV). God created a day where man was able to have a weekly rest And he “said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:” (Matthew 2:27 KJV). It is a day to focus on him and see the majesty of God through the study of his word and the beauty of his creation. The Sabbath (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset Leviticus 23: 23 KJV) is my favourite period of the week, it allows we to set aside all worldly cares and focus of the goodness of God. Not only is Sabbath rest paramount, having adequate amount of sleep is also, improper rest is detrimental. Rest is need for our bodies to recover from the stressors of everyday living (Staple,2015). …Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath…
Trust God.  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3: 5-6 KJV)
‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, “Thus saith the Lord.” (Hymn 524, SDA Hymnal)
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey (Hymn 590, SDA Hymnal)
We must learn to trust the Lord and to stop trying to do things in our own strength, if we are to overcome that which is encroaching out lives then we are to do so through humanity and divinity combined.
“Temptations to the indulgence of appetite pos- sess a power which can be overcome only by the help that God can impart. But with every temptation we have the promise of God that there shall be a way of escape. Why, then, are so many overcome? It is be- cause they do not put their trust in God. They do not avail themselves of the means provided for their safety. The excuses offered for the gratification of perverted appetite, are therefore of no weight with God.
“Let none, then, regard their defects as incurable. God will give faith and grace to overcome them”.  (GC, 489/490). By the grace of God may we all live up to the health laws so that we can be in good health like our father desires us to be (3 John 2 KJV).
