Natural Hair: How to Deep Condition

Deep conditioning is a must for natural hair. Afro textured hair tends to be quite dry and therefore needs moisture. Deep conditioning aids in keeping hair moisturised and helps with the health of hair. In this post I am going to outline how I deep condition my hair.

You will need:

a deep conditioner (Click here for a recipe)
a comb (optional)
Clips or hair band (to section)
Plastic caps or a carrier bag

  1. Section your hair into four you can use a comb, or you fingers to do so
  2. Secure sections with clips or hair bands
  3. Working in sections, apply the conditioner starting from tip to root. Ensure the condition is well distributed.
  4. Detangle the section with a comb or your fingers.
  5. Braid up or clip or secure section and move on to another until you have done this for each section.
  6. If you have a hair steamer sit under your steamer for 20- 30 mins
  7. 7 If you do not have a steamer cover your hair with a plastic cap or bag and another type pf cap (bonnet or woolly hat) to create heat. Leave on for 30 mins - 1 hour.
  8. Rinse hair in sections with water.

I recommend that you deep conditioning your hair every 7- 10 days
(I find this hard to do -_-)
